AMD plans a substantial chip supply increase in 2027 to meet AI demand. Investors will watch whether additional capacity translates into stronger sales, competitive gains and healthy margins.

AMD plans to substantially increase chip supply in 2027 as it races to meet demand for artificial intelligence computing, CEO Lisa Su said on Tuesday.

Su is meeting supply-chain partners in Taiwan and South Korea to secure manufacturing capacity and memory supplies. She said AMD needs more advanced wafer capacity and is planning three to five years ahead.

Turning demand into revenue

For investors, the expansion could give AMD more room to grow its AI business and compete with Nvidia. Its ability to deliver chips will help determine how much customer demand becomes revenue.

The financial test extends beyond production volumes. Investors will want evidence that additional sales support healthy margins and justify the resources committed to expansion.

Execution now matters as much as demand: securing enough components, delivering products on time and winning customer orders will shape the payoff.
