EnergyX Lands a $2 Billion Lithium Supply Deal

EnergyX has secured a lithium supply agreement valued at roughly $2 billion. The deal strengthens its commercial case, while financing, construction and production costs remain central to delivery.

EnergyX has secured a major buyer for lithium it plans to produce in Texas and Chile.
The privately held, GM-backed company announced a 10-year agreement with Trafigura covering 100,000 tonnes of lithium. Its estimated $2 billion value reflects current prices.
Production is targeted for 2028 in Chile and 2029 in Texas, with additional financing still needed to build the facilities.
A buyer strengthens the funding case
A customer commitment can help a minerals developer attract financing by demonstrating demand for its planned output. For EnergyX, the agreement provides a commercial foundation as it works towards construction.
Execution remains crucial. Delays, higher construction costs or difficulties scaling production could weaken returns even with a buyer secured.
Investor takeaway: EnergyX is privately held, but the deal provides a useful comparison for investors assessing listed lithium developers. Look for customer commitments alongside credible financing and construction plans. Securing a buyer is an important milestone; delivering lithium at a competitive cost determines whether the project can generate lasting value for shareholders.
