Genmab shares rose after its AbbVie-partnered lymphoma treatment delivered positive Phase 3 results. Expansion into newly diagnosed patients could create a larger revenue opportunity, subject to regulatory approval.

Genmab’s European shares climbed 7.6% on Tuesday morning after the company and AbbVie announced positive late-stage results for a lymphoma treatment combination.

Their Phase 3 study found that adding epcoritamab to standard R-CHOP treatment reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 51% compared with R-CHOP alone in the patients studied.

The trial involved people with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The companies said the treatment’s safety profile was generally consistent with the known profiles of the medicines involved.

A potential larger market

For investors, the opportunity lies in expanding epcoritamab’s use to patients beginning treatment. Successful expansion could increase its commercial reach and strengthen the partners’ cancer portfolios.

However, the combination is not yet approved for this newly diagnosed population. Regulatory decisions remain a necessary step before the trial results can translate into additional sales.

The results strengthen the growth case, while leaving approval and eventual uptake as the next tests.
