Grupo México reports a 56% jump in quarterly profit as higher copper prices lift earnings. Reduced production guidance highlights the operational challenges facing one of the world's largest copper producers.

Higher metal prices are delivering a major earnings boost for Grupo México, even as the mining giant lowers its copper production outlook.

The company reported third-quarter net profit of $2 billion, up 56% from a year earlier, while revenue climbed 38% to $6.33 billion.

The results exceeded analyst expectations, demonstrating the financial benefits of stronger commodity prices.

However, Grupo México also reduced its 2026 copper production forecast from 1.034 million to 1.026 million metric tons.

Strong prices, weaker output

Copper production declined 1.9% year over year to approximately 260,322 metric tons during the quarter.

Lower output from operations in Peru and the United States was partly offset by increased production in Mexico.

Despite those challenges, quarterly EBITDA rose 50.5% to $3.77 billion, reflecting the strength of the company's earnings performance.

The results highlight how higher commodity prices can support mining profits even when operational performance weakens.

Investor Take: Grupo México's results demonstrate the powerful effect of copper prices on mining profitability. However, lower production guidance raises questions about future output and operating efficiency. Investors should watch copper prices, production recovery and cost management. Sustained profitability will depend on balancing favourable market conditions with reliable mine performance.
