Liquidia’s $380.7 million settlement preserves YUTREPIA sales for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Investors now face a clearer commercial outlook, substantial cash payments and a key test of the drug’s continuing growth.

Liquidia has secured room to grow its lung disease treatment—with a substantial bill attached.

The company announced a settlement with United Therapeutics on Tuesday, resolving all six pending lawsuits between them. YUTREPIA will remain available for pulmonary arterial hypertension, preserving its commercial foothold.

Liquidia will make net payments totalling $380.7 million under the related agreements, with payments extending into 2027.

Sales face a new test

The agreement follows a court ruling against Liquidia concerning patents covering treatment of pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease. Liquidia has submitted a request to remove that indication from YUTREPIA’s label and stopped promoting it for that use.

The company reported preliminary third-quarter YUTREPIA sales of $222.7 million and cash of $396.1 million at September 30.

Management expects existing cash and continuing sales to fund the payments and planned studies without additional financing. Those expectations depend on future business performance.

Investor Take: The settlement reduces uncertainty around YUTREPIA’s existing pulmonary arterial hypertension business. Shareholders now need to assess growth alongside the cash demands of the agreement. Watch sales following the indication change, settlement payments and the next cash balance. November’s earnings update should give investors a clearer view of how comfortably Liquidia can fund both its obligations and development plans.
