Meta’s Muse Sparks a New AI Buying Frenzy

Meta’s Muse assistant has climbed to the top of Apple’s US App Store, lifting Meta and chip stocks as investors reconsider the commercial potential of consumer AI agents.

Meta shares surged more than 11% on Monday as early demand for its new Muse AI assistant revived investor confidence in consumer artificial intelligence.
Muse has climbed to the top of Apple’s US App Store rankings for free applications following its launch earlier this month. The strong start helped Meta record its best single-day share-price gain since April 2025.
The excitement spread beyond Meta.
AMD reached a $1 trillion valuation for the first time, while Intel, Arm and other semiconductor companies rose sharply as investors anticipated stronger demand for the computing power needed to operate AI agents.
Unlike traditional chatbots, AI agents are designed to complete tasks and operate more independently. If consumers begin using them regularly, the technology could create substantially heavier workloads for data centres.
That possibility matters because Meta and other technology companies are spending enormous sums on AI infrastructure. Investors have repeatedly questioned when that investment will begin producing meaningful returns.
Muse offers Meta an opportunity to demonstrate that its spending can create products with broad consumer appeal.
The company also has a major distribution advantage. Its services, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, give it access to billions of users who could eventually interact with Muse.
However, high download numbers do not guarantee long-term success. Meta must show that users continue engaging with the assistant and that it can eventually generate revenue or improve the value of its existing platforms.
The rally suggests investors are increasingly willing to believe that consumer AI products can justify further infrastructure spending.
For Meta, the next test is turning Muse from a popular launch into a lasting business. Early adoption has created excitement, but sustained engagement and a clear route to revenue will determine whether that optimism holds.
