FDA priority review gives uniQure a target decision date for its Huntington’s gene therapy, creating a major stock catalyst while leaving clinical evidence and the path to approval under scrutiny.

uniQure now has a date for one of the most consequential decisions in its development program.

The FDA has accepted the company’s application for AMT-130, its investigational Huntington’s disease gene therapy, and granted priority review. The agency set a target action date of May 1, 2027.

The application seeks accelerated approval. If approved, the therapy would become the first treatment designed to change the course of Huntington’s disease, according to the company.

Acceptance for review does not establish that the treatment meets the requirements for approval.

For Nasdaq-listed uniQure, the development creates a clear regulatory catalyst. It moves the discussion toward the evidence the FDA will assess and the conditions that could accompany a potential approval.

The application is supported by a previously announced 36-month analysis from an early-stage study, comparing treated patients with matched patients from an external disease database.

The FDA is also tentatively planning an advisory committee discussion. Meanwhile, uniQure plans to begin U.S. screening by year-end for an approximately 200-patient randomized confirmatory study.

The evidence still carries uncertainty. A later four-year analysis did not show a statistically significant difference on the composite disease-progression measure, although another functional measure showed a benefit. The company said missing data and limitations in the external comparison affected interpretation.

That makes the review more than a countdown. Investors will need to assess how regulators weigh the different analyses and what further evidence they require.

The opportunity could be substantial, but a target decision date gives the market a timetable—not certainty about the outcome.

Investor Take: FDA acceptance is a meaningful step for uniQure, with approval risk still central to the stock. Watch for advisory committee details, regulatory feedback and progress on the confirmatory trial. The strongest investment case will depend on evidence supporting a durable treatment benefit and a workable commercial path.
