UnitedHealth’s Earnings Beat Strengthens Its Turnaround

UnitedHealth beat earnings expectations and raised its annual profit forecast as medical costs improved. Sustaining stronger margins while stabilising insurance membership will be the next test for shareholders.

UnitedHealth’s recovery is gaining traction.
The healthcare giant delivered third-quarter adjusted earnings of $4.69 a share, ahead of the $4.14 analysts expected, and raised its full-year adjusted profit forecast to at least $20.50 a share.
Its medical-cost ratio—the percentage of insurance premiums spent on care—improved to 88.4%, from 89.9% a year earlier. Declining insurance membership remains a challenge.
Investor takeaway: The results strengthen the turnaround case. Shareholders should watch whether UnitedHealth can sustain better margins while stabilising membership, giving its recovery a stronger foundation for growth.
