NervGen has begun its pivotal spinal cord injury trial, moving NVG-291 into a crucial test of functional recovery. Investors are watching enrollment and cash runway ahead of results expected in 2028.

NervGen (NASDAQ: NGEN) has reached a major milestone in its effort to help restore function after spinal cord injury.

The company announced on October 12 that the first participant has received NVG-291 in its Phase 3 RESTORE trial. The experimental treatment aims to help the nervous system repair itself.

Earlier testing reported improvements in hand function, walking quality and daily independence. RESTORE now needs to establish whether those encouraging findings hold up in a larger, placebo-controlled study.

Around 150 adults with chronic cervical spinal cord injuries are expected to participate. Enrollment should finish in the second half of 2027, with initial results expected in the first half of 2028.

For investors, funding matters alongside the science. NervGen reported US$61.1 million in cash at June 30, which management expects to cover operations through the results. Its US$50 million share-sale facility provides flexibility, although using it would dilute shareholders.

What we’re watching: Enrollment progress, spending and whether the next cash update supports that runway. Phase 3 is underway; clinical success remains unproven.

This is not an investment recommendation.
