Amazon Launches Equity-Free Deep Tech Accelerator to Fast-Track Net-Zero Materials and Energy Tech

Amazon is expanding a proven model to bring startups working on low-carbon materials, energy efficiency, and circularity into its Devices, AWS, and Private Brands businesses, with potential supply deals, licensing, or investment on the table.

Amazon has unveiled its Sustainability Deep Tech Accelerator, an equity-free global program that unites Amazon Devices, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Amazon Private Brands. The initiative targets technologies that can reduce the carbon footprint of components such as semiconductors, batteries, displays, packaging, PCBs, textiles, polymers, and plastics, while also improving energy efficiency and material recovery for cloud hardware and consumer products.

The program builds on the Devices Climate Tech Accelerator launched in 2025. That earlier version ran two cohorts totaling 28 companies through a six-month evaluation process that gave finalists direct access to senior leaders with authority to approve integrations. The new version broadens the scope so a single engagement can open multiple commercial pathways across Amazon’s operations.

Participants can receive up to $100,000 in AWS Activate Credits plus mentorship. Successful technologies may lead to supply agreements, licensing contracts, collaborative development, or direct investment. Promising solutions can also be referred to other Amazon units. The structure is designed to shorten the usual lab-to-enterprise timeline by having startups shape integration proposals around actual product roadmaps and manufacturing readiness, then present them to decision-makers.

The focus areas align with Amazon’s Climate Pledge goal of net-zero carbon emissions across operations by 2040:

- Low-carbon materials and advanced manufacturing for displays, batteries, accessories, packaging, and semiconductors

- Energy efficiency advances in thermal and power management

- Circularity strategies that recover and reuse critical materials to cut embodied carbon

Applications open in January 2027; an interest list is already live.

Maiken Møller-Hansen, Director of Energy and Sustainability for Amazon Devices and Services, said new technologies are needed to cut emissions and increase recycled content, but “the traditional path from lab to enterprise adoption is too slow.” The accelerator aims to create a faster route where innovators develop proposals ready for commercial decisions.

**Investor Take:** For deep-tech startups in materials, batteries, power management, or circular manufacturing, Amazon is offering a structured, equity-free path into one of the world’s largest buyers. Watch for follow-on commercial agreements or investment announcements from early cohorts as signals of how effectively the program converts technical validation into revenue-generating partnerships.
